Root tip resection is a surgical procedure for tooth preservation. It is indicated when inflammations at the root tip of the tooth persist despite a root canal treatment at the dentist.

Root tip resection is performed when there is an infection in the area of the root tip after root canal treatment at your dentist. A microsurgery is performed under local anesthesia to access the root tip of the tooth, separate, and carefully remove the inflammation. Afterwards, the root canal is microsurgically prepared and disinfected from the root tip of the tooth using very fine ultrasound instruments. Following this step, the prepared section of the root canal is filled with a sealing cement. This way, in 85% of the cases, the tooth can be preserved.
